About gold prices in the UK
How the the UK gold price is set
Gold trades on one global market, priced in pound sterling in the UK. The rate on this page is the pure-metal value per gram; a shop then adds its premium for coins, bars or jewellery, and any local sales tax. That's why the price you pay at the counter is a little above the metal rate shown here.
24K, 22K and 18K explained
24K (999) is pure gold, used for bars and coins. 22K (916) is the standard for Indian and South Asian jewellery. 18K (750) is 75% gold, common in diamond and modern designs. All three move together with the world gold price — only the purity changes the per-gram number.
Bringing it home to India
For the large Indian community in the UK, the common question isn't buying to save — once Indian customs duty is added above your duty-free allowance, Western retail gold rarely beats the Indian price. It's usually about carrying gifted or family jewellery. Stay within your allowance where you can, keep the invoice, and use the carry-home calculator before you fly.
Rates are a reference the UK metal price entered daily; INR conversions use today's GBP/INR of ₹127.39 and are indicative. Confirm the final price with your dealer — it includes the premium and any local sales tax.
