Diesel ₹95.59 ₹94AED 3.60 UAE ₹2

UAE figures are the nationwide price (Special 95 / diesel) for July 2026, converted at AED 1 = ₹26.07. The rupee comparison moves with the exchange rate.

Why they differ

Both start from the same global crude. India adds central excise and state VAT — heavier on petrol than diesel — while the UAE has no fuel tax. So Indian petrol lands near or above the UAE, but Indian diesel, taxed lightly, often comes in cheaper. The rupee gap also moves with the AED–INR rate.

India vs UAE fuel, explained

Is petrol cheaper in the UAE than India?

Once converted to rupees, UAE Special 95 petrol (≈₹86/litre today) sits close to Delhi's ₹102.56. The gap is small and can flip month to month, because the UAE revises its rate monthly while India's changes with state taxes and crude. The UAE has no fuel tax at all, so its pump price tracks global oil almost directly — but India's petrol, despite heavy tax, is buffered by a stronger refining base, leaving the two surprisingly close in rupee terms.

Why Indian diesel is often cheaper

India deliberately taxes diesel more lightly than petrol because it powers freight, farming and public transport. That keeps Delhi diesel at ₹95.59, often below the UAE's ≈₹94. So the headline "fuel is cheaper in the Gulf" holds for petrol far more than for diesel — for diesel, India frequently wins.

How the rupee rate changes the answer

Every UAE figure here is converted at AED 1 = ₹26.07. Because that rate moves daily, the rupee comparison is never fixed: a weaker rupee makes UAE fuel look dearer in ₹, a stronger one makes it look cheaper, even when the AED price hasn't changed. The AED amounts (AED 3.29 petrol, AED 3.60 diesel) are the stable numbers.
